About
Joel Couture is a lifelong bass player and music industry advocate. Currently living in Winnipeg, MB (Canada), Couture is now the bassist for Canadian-American band HELLO FIASCO. The band recently released their first album to great success, including several million streams across platforms, over 47,000 trackable radio plays and over 1.3M video views on YouTube.
Previously, Couture has been the bassist for Canadian artists Matt Epp, Justin Lacroix Band, Vesely Couture, and The Mailman's Children. The Mailman's Children, who toured Canada and released 4 studio efforts, is where Couture met and played with both Eric LaBossiere (Lead Singer) and Joel Perreault (Lead Guitarist). In 2021, the trio joined forces with Canadian keyboardist and backing singer Guy Abraham to form Hello Fiasco.
BACKGROUND
Following the completion of a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba in 2004, Joel spent six years at l’Université de Saint-Boniface working in student recruiting and event planning. Joel is also an accomplished recording and touring musician, accompanying many artists including Hello Fiasco, Justin Lacroix, Matt Epp, and Vesely Couture.
In 2013, Joel joined the team at Manitoba Music to helm the music association’s new Francophone Music Program, representing Western Canadian Francophone artists. During the five-year stint with Manitoba Music, Joel assisted many artists build their businesses, access new music markets, and connect with key industry players and with their peers across Western Canada. He has created and run successful projects including the “Rame à la rencontre” events in Montreal and Winnipeg, professional development camps, and the musiquefrancophone.ca platform.
Furthermore, Joel has served on several steering committees, board of directors, jurys, etc. where his perspective, thoughtfulness, enthusiasm, and generosity are much appreciated.
In 2019, Joel was awarded the Paul Demers Industry Builder Award (prix Bâtisseur du Trille Or Paul Demers). The award recipient, a stakeholder in Western Canada or Ontario’s Francophone music industry, demonstrates his or her involvement and long-term impact within the industry. Ontario based l’Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique presented the award during the biennial “Trille Or” ceremony in Ottawa.
Joel continues to be involved in several community projects within in the Western Canadian Francophone community while never steering too far away from his bass guitar!
